Kerala Food
If you’re excited to explore Kerala cuisine while you’re here, we’ve selected three tried-and-true restaurants where you’ll find both classic dishes and safe, high-quality service. You’ll find Kerala food in many places, but these venues are especially reliable for visitors.
Paragon Restaurant – One of the region’s longest-standing and most famous eateries, especially popular for its biryani. (It’s a personal favourite for Nameetta). Key dishes include chicken biryani, prawns mango curry, fish mango curry, porotta and beef dry fry. The restaurant is located within one of India’s largest malls, so feel free to combine your meal with some shopping as well.
Cheenavala – A seafood specialist: whatever seafood you choose here, you’re in good hands.
Chef Pillai (Fine Dining Kerala Food) – For an elevated experience of Kerala cuisine: recommended dishes include “Nirvana” (a signature fish dish) and “Venad Pal Konja” (a prawns dish).
Also, bonus: check out social kitchen & brindavan for authentic south Indian breakfast (highly recommend dosa and kesari)
Other popular joints
Here are some more dining spots that we recommend when you’d like to explore outside the traditional Kerala menu:
Tony’s Kitchen — A great choice for Asian-fusion cuisine; highly recommended and very close to the Avenue Regent if you are staying in that area. Also conveniently near French Toast, one of the working cafés we mentioned earlier.
Smoke Culture by Steve — A standout choice for meat lovers, especially if you enjoy brisket and high-quality smoked meats.
Sakura Komichi — A Japanese restaurant a little further afield, ideal if you’re in the mood for sushi, ramen or other Japanese classics.
Working cafes
If you need to squeeze in a bit of work during your trip while still enjoying a good cup of coffee, there are several comfortable cafés nearby that are perfect for settling in with a laptop -
Bars
If you are looking for a fun night out with good drinks and atmosphere, here are a few great options nearby:
1. Mezze (Avenue Regent) – A convenient choice if you are staying at Avenue Regent. A relaxed bar and lounge inside the hotel, perfect for an easy drink without traveling.
2. Gaia – A stylish bar with a bohemian theme and a lively vibe, great for cocktails and music with friends.
3. Rodeo Lounge Bar – A cowboy-themed lounge offering a fun, quirky setting and a good selection of drinks for a casual night out.
